Castle Alarms

The Responsible Person

The 'responsible person' is required to:

  • Carry out a Fire Risk Assessment
  • Provide and maintain general fire precautions to the extent that is appropriate
  • Monitor and review the Risk Assessment and revise as appropriate
  • Inform staff and/or their representative of the identified risks
  • Plan for an emergency
  • Provide staff information, instruction and training
  • Nominate persons to assist
  • Co-operate and co-ordinate with other 'responsible persons' in the building where necessary

Other areas for consideration are:

  • Means For Detecting & Giving Warning in case of fire
  • Means of Escape & Emergency Lighting
  • Fire Safety Signs
  • Fire fighting Equipment

Where the employer does not have control of all parts of the building

If the Workplace is shared with other persons, they should be informed of any significant risks identified. The person who has to any extent control (landlord, owner or other employer etc) has a responsibility to make sure that the Fire Safety Order is complied with, in the parts they control. This may require communication and co-operation between all parties to ensure co-ordination of fire safety provisions, fire fighting measures, evacuation procedures etc.
